What time do I schedule my flight and which airport do I fly into?
You will want to fly into the Tambor Airport, which is a small airport that is a 45 minute drive from our retreat. You will first fly to San Jose, Costa Rica International Airport (SJO) (all major airlines service San Jose International Airport and many offer non-stops from U.S. cities) then take a quick 25 minute flight to Tambor. There are two domestic airlines that offer flights that fly into Tambor from San Jose (SJO): Sansa Air and Nature Air. You will want to arrive mid- morning or afternoon of the first day of the retreat and depart in the mid-morning to afternoon on the last day of the retreat.
Do I have to be a good swimmer?
Naturally, surfing happens in the ocean a short distance from the shore. For a positive surf experience, we require that our guests be in relatively good physical condition, competent swimmers and comfortable in the ocean. We don’t recommend these retreats for people with, major health problems, existing injuries, who take medication that would restrict swimming, breathing, or impair good judgment or women who are pregnant. Each guest is required to assess her own abilities and conditions when deciding to join the retreat.
I have never been surfing. Is this a surf destination for beginners?
Yes. We do the surf lessons at a gentle rolling wave that is perfect for beginners. We have designed a program to teach you how to surf in a fun, welcoming environment.
I have surfed for a few years, would this retreat be for me?
Yes. Our retreat is for all level of surfers. This area of Costa Rica has a number of different types of breaks. There is a great challenging surf break right out front of the house. The area offers a wide variety of surf breaks, depending on your surfing goals and ability, we will make sure your needs are met.
I’m going by myself. Is that o.k.?
Absolutely. Many of our guests travel solo and make friends during the retreat. You can choose to occupy one of the rooms by yourself, or we will work with you to pair you with a room mate.
Can I bring my own surfboard?
Yes! Absolutely, if you have a favorite board, bring it down.
What other activities are available?
